Fuel Efficiency and Range of the 2025 Kia Niro HEV & PHEV

2025 Kia Niro HEV and PHEV

Switching to electric driving, or at least partially electric, is a smart move. But for many Stratford-area drivers, the biggest concern comes down to fuel efficiency, like how a hybrid vehicle saves gas compared to a traditional gas-powered car, and how far a plug-in hybrid can take you before needing to fill up or plug in. The Kia Niro is a great example to explore these questions. The 2025 Kia Niro comes in three versions, including a fully electric Niro model. But here, we’re focusing on the two hybrids: the HEV, a hybrid that doesn’t require plugging in, and the PHEV, a plug-in hybrid that lets you drive on electric power alone for short trips. Continue reading with our team at Stratford Kia below, and we’ll walk through the fuel economy and range you can expect from each model. By the end, you’ll have a clear picture of which Niro fits your driving needs best.

2025 Kia Niro HEV Fuel Economy

Unlike the plug-in hybrid version, the Niro Hybrid doesn’t let you drive on pure electric power, but its battery charges itself automatically, so you can rest assured you’ll consistently get excellent fuel economy, with an estimated 4.5 L/100 km in the city and 4.4 L/100 km on the highway.

2025 Kia Niro PHEV Fuel Economy & Range

What really sets the 2025 Niro PHEV apart is its ability to run in all-electric mode. You can drive up to 53 km without using a drop of fuel. And for longer drives, the gas engine kicks in, which gives you a total driving range of up to 835 km on a full tank. Moreover, with a Level 2 (240V) charger, the battery can be fully recharged in about 2 hours and 45 minutes. In terms of fuel economy, the Niro PHEV is incredibly efficient, with an estimated 2.1 Le/100 km. The “Le” stands for litres equivalent, a way of measuring how much total energy the vehicle uses in both electric mode and gas driving.

What’s the Difference Between the Niro HEV and PHEV?

One of the best parts is that the 2025 Kia Niro Hybrid doesn’t require plugging in because its battery can be charged automatically through regenerative braking. It’s great for drivers who want to save money at the pump but don’t have easy access to charging stations. Switch over to the 2025 Kia Plug-In Hybrid, which also comes with a gasoline engine and electric motor but features a larger battery that you can plug in and charge. This allows you to drive purely on electric power. When the battery runs out, the gas engine takes over, so you don’t have to worry about range anxiety like you might with a pure EV.
